In November 2013, IRC organised a webinar 'Self-supply as a water service'.

In Africa alone, hundreds of thousands have developed their own wells, created rainwater harvesting systems and/or practiced household water treatment. There now is wider understanding – against the backdrop of slower-than-desired progress in mainstream approaches to supply rural communities with water, and newly proposed ambitious targets to supply water to all homes – that there is a need to do more to support the efforts of households in developing their own supplies through Self-supply.

Presentations by IRC staff provided examples of Self-supply activities in Burkina Faso and Ethiopia.
