The illustrations and simple language make the handbook suitable for newly literate readers. Symbols in the text are used to indicate objectives, questions, important information, and summaries. The handbook describes the relationship between water and health; the task of the water committee; the role of the caretaker, community, water committee and other organizations involved in maintaining the water point; and solutions to common problems.
