Abstract

Delegates from 32 participating countries presented more than sixty technical papers at the Sixth International Conference on Rainwater Catchment Systems in Nairobi, Kenya. The papers addressed matters relating to policy, technology, socio-economic aspects, water quality, hydrology and agriculture. The conference objectives were: a. To explore the potential for rainwater use in rural and urban areas. b. To identify problems and constraints in terms of technical, social, cultural and economic matters that restrict participation in the development and use of rainwater catchment systems on a sustainable basis. c. To exchange lessons learned and experiences gained in the development and use of technologies in rainwater catchment areas. d. To study the role of women and community participation in the development of rainwater harvesting systems.
