Abstract

This article discusses the importance of training in the water supply and sanitation sector of the state of Gujarat in India; a strategy for developing a training institute; the summary findings of report called "A study on training needs and formulation of manpower development programme for water supply and sanitation sector in Gujarat State"; the implementation programme adopted by the Gujarat Jalseva Training Institute (GJTI) with World Bank funding; and problems faced by GJTI during its first few years of operation and the possible remedies thereof.
