Abstract

The main subject is the importance of having programs and investments in water supply and sanitation, focused in the sustainability keeping. Its was elaborated starting from the experience obtained in the execution of the “National Program of Sustainability of Systems of Water and Sanitation”. A conceptual orientation  is presented to assist the benefit of sustainable services of water supply and sanitation, in smaller towns to 12.500 inhabitants. It is considered that a system of water supply and sanitation is sustainable, in the measure that give the wanted level of service along its projected life, with approaches of quality, economic and environmental  efficiency, which can be financed or cofinanced in an efficient way, without they cause a negative effect. The community Participation is also fundamental part of this sustainable concept. As a conclusion, it is suggested that to apply this conceptual setting it is required to make adjustments in the political frame of the country and in the educational processes university students.
