Abstract

This document is an outcome of the WHO/UNESCO/UNICEF Consultation on Strategies for Implementing Comprehensive School Health Education / Promotion Programmes held in November 1991. The 25 Experts attending the consultation arrived at a consensus on a comprehensive approach to school health education and guiding principles for action. The document explains the importance of school health education in: The Case for School Health Education. It further includes chapters on The concept of comprehensive school health education; General principles to guide action; Critical tasks; Strategies for action, including policy development, coordinating mechanism, programme development and implementation, research and evaluation, and actions at the international level; and Meeting the challenge. Annexes contain case studies from 16 countries
