Abstract

Within the framework of their 2001-2004 research programme CREPA conducted research in 8 French speaking countries in West- and Central Africa on the mechanisms of micro financing as it is used in (among others) the health sector and agriculture. The objective of the research was to study the potential of micro financing in the water and sanitation sector, in particular of its use in the increase of coverage rates in drinking water supply, hygiene and sanitation services.
This video covers the different forms of micro financing in West- and Central Africa, such as mutual insurance companies, savings and loans cooperatives and more traditional and informal mechanism like the mutual small loans among women traders.
The film also shows water and sanitation projects in the different West- and Central African countries in which micro financing will be used.
