Abstract | From june until july 2009, researchers the Center for Global Safe Water at Emory University, in partnership with ATW research consultants, conducted an assessment off the social and behavioral determinants of water, sanitation, and hygiene practices among residents of the two communes of Antananarivo, Madagascar, where water supply for the urban poor (WSUP) has implemented pilot projects. In particular, this assessment focused on the barriers to adoption among the most disadvantaged groups of the population. The assessment was completed using a mix of qualitative and quantitative methods, including in-depth interviews, free listing and free association exercises, and a population-‐based survey.
