SWA Steering Committee 2015

The Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) Meeting of Ministers of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 15-16 March 2016.

IRC is honored to join this meeting convened by UNICEF and hosted by the Government of Ethiopia. IRC's CEO Patrick Moriarty will attend as a newly selected "Research and Learning" member of SWA's Steering Committee.

The meeting will be the first step for countries and their partners to discuss national planning to meet the challenges of the water, sanitation and hygiene-related targets of the new SDGs. The meeting's format will allow discussion of the implications on planning and resource requirements, as well as create opportunities for exchanging best practices and agree on the process for engaging finance and planning ministries.

Participants will include high-level representatives from civil society, external support agencies, research and learning institutions and the private sector and will provide a forum to understand the needs of countries and how best to collectively support them. As an international community, it will be an opportunity to agree on how to track progress and contribute to the UN Follow-up and Review process of the SDGs.

SWA and the Global Goals

SWA plays a pivotal role in follow up and review of the water and sanitation SDG targets. The partnership provides an ideal platform for exchange of learning and support to countries as they prepare their SDG water and sanitation implementation plans.

IRC is proud to be a member of the newly elected Steering Committee and will support the partnership's efforts while working collaboratively to reach a common goal: sanitation, hygiene and water for all, always and everywhere.
