Abstract

Officially launched in 2011, SIASAR: Rural Water and Sanitation Information System, is now in use in Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, The Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Oaxaca (Mexico), Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Ceara (Brazil) and Paraguay.

This presentation for the IRC webinar "Promoting harmonized monitoring for the WASH sector" held on 5 March 2018, describes what data SIASAR collects and how it is processed to produce sustainability metrics for systems, service providers, communities and technical assistance providers. Preliminary findings are provided and compared with those of the WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme for Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (JMP). Lessons learned concerning principles, processes, implementation, institutionalisation, coordination and harmonisation, stakeholder involvement, and supporting national teams are given. The presentation concludes with a set of challenges.
