Inauguration CWSA Advisory Board. Left: Vida DutiThe Government of Ghana announced the inauguration of a nine-member Advisory Board for the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) of the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources. The CWSA has the mandate to facilitate the provision of safe drinking water and related sanitation services to rural communities and small towns.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the sanitation and water resources minister mentioned that the establishment of the Board comes at a critical time when close to 40% of Ghanaians in rural areas lack access to improved water supply. Hon Joseph Kofi Adda disclosed that the World Bank had awarded the government a US$ 47 million credit for expansion in the water sector. The minister asked the Board to give special attention to water quality, pricing, reliability and procurement.

The CWSA Advisory Board consists of Mr. Kwesi Edufo Yankey (Chair), IRC Ghana country director Mrs. Vida Duti, Mrs. Rose Afua Appenteng, Mr. Worlanyo Kwadjo Siabi, Mr. Remy Bonpira Puoru, Mr Cosmos Balazuma Kambozie, Mr Donnan K. Tay, Mr Patrick Acheampong, and Naba Moses Abaare Appiah IV.
