| Abstract | This document represents the proceedings of the International Symposium jointly organized by UNESCO, France's Water Academy, and the French IHP National Committee, on Water, the City and Urban Planning. The meeting took place from 10 to 11 April 1997 at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. There were nearly 300 participants from 50 countries, who came to discuss most pressing urban water issues of today and to compare their experiences. Representatives of 23 cities from around the world were present and they indicated their willingness to launch and to be initial partners of an international network of cities. The 23 cities involved are: Africa: Cairo, Casablanca, Ouagadougou; Americas: Boston, Brasilia, Buenos Aires, Mexico; Asia: Delhi, Hanoi, Jakarta, Osaka, Seoul, Shanghai; Europe: Budapest, London, Madrid, Munich, St Petersburg and in France: Annecy, Bordeaux, Limoges, Marseille, Paris. |
