Abstract

One of the  objectives of the project is to quantify the WASHCost long-term cost of sanitation services. The results presented here are from a sample of 340 latrines on nine study sites in three regions of Burkina Faso. Of these nine sites, three are located in urban and six rural. Two types of latrines were surveyed: the Pit (LT) for all sites and VIP latrine in urban areas. In both cases, investment costs, operation and rehabilitation were collected from these households with latrines. Quantify the long-term costs incurred by households for a latrine is a first step in the apprehension of a sanitation service. To obtain an overview of the costs of wastewater service, other types of costs such as costs of direct and indirect support, should be inventoried. All of these costs reflects the current level of service. Know them to be used to better plan interventions to be undertaken to develop a sustainable sanitation service.
